Theus stood in the courtyard of the Frozen Palace with the other Legionaries as they trained, he threw knives at a practice dummy. It hit slightly off target, his aim effected by the loss of his eye to the rioter. It had been years and he still couldn't hit the target like he used too in his first year of service.
Frustrated, he sighed and grabbed the small knife as he moved from the training area to one of the courtyard benches where he took a sip from a bucket of water. "ALRIGHT SOLDIERS!" A voice boomed making Theus' head flick into the air. One of the Lords was speaking, "A HEALER IS PRESENT. WHEN YOUR NAME IS CALLED. PROCEED TO THE COMMANDER'S TENT FOR INSPECTION!"

It was mid-day, the sun high over head as Althaia made her way towards the Palace. She flicked her bangs, her hair placed into a pretty side pony as usual, her russet red cloak made one think about red ridding hood when you take a look at it. She carried a woven basket, carrying tools and other needed herbs and potions and such to ensure that she could do her best at the Palace. More than anything Althaia was nervous, her heart beat was quick and choked her. She was the best healer in all the city, it was a honor to be invited to the Palace as the healer to check up on all the soldiers and such. The white she-cat wasnt one to say no, and so it was obvious when the messenger gave her the letter she could only squeal and jump with joy. What a honor, she kept thinking, her golden eyes starting to finally focus as she was at the Palace doors. She looked up, the gate towering overhead as she was lead in by two guards. Althaia gulped and twittled with her basket handle she was carrying, sweat beginning to form beneath her white and grey stripped fur, her ind swirling with thoughts. As she followed the guards they led her into a room where a soldier was already waiting. She cleared her throat as the two cats who had led her in there stared ahead with little interest in her and what ever she was doing. Althaia smoother down her cloak and placed her basket down. Approaching the cat. She asked him simple questions like, How are you feeling? Have you gotten any injures in the past, how about resent? Any problems with joints and etc. It didnt take long, she gave him a vitamin and checked his leg reaction as she hit a small place right below his knee cap, forcing his leg to twitch. She checked his eyes, seeing nothing out of the ordinary, and testing his eyes sight. She past him with a one hundred percent health and had the next cat come in. She repeated the process once again, and finally after about five or so cats, a name was called, Orpheus. She waited patiently for the cat to step into the room. The white cat was starting to get bored and felt it was very awkward not have a conversation so she told herself she would -try- to talk to this next tom, if he wasnt scary of course...

Theus walked towards the healer room, one paws scratching lightly at the bandage over his missing eye out of nervousness as he walked towards the door. He was never a fan of doctors and healers; they made him think of amputees, dysentery and the plague. Letting out a shiver, he dropped his paw from his face to clench it with his other paws, ears folded back as he entered the room and sat down only to see a small, white she-cat that he thought was the healer's assistant.

Althaia watched as Theus walked into the room, his eyes shone with nervousness and a light distrust. But of course the little white she-cat was completely used to that sort of thing, almost every cat she encountered didnt enjoy doctors, but as a healer she tried her best to make her patients as comfortable as she could make them. She waved a paw to a bench set out in front of her, "Come sit over here good sir, my name is Althaia, I will be doing your check-up today," She told him, light confidence in her tone as she kindly addressed him but she soon found herself bending to the thought of being to confident and added, "I hope you dont mind." Althaia now waited for the tom to sit down for her to check up on him. Theus had a strong and light build, one that you would see a fast cat have. He was probably one to do a lot of sneaking. He had a nice shoulder and arm line, this gave off the fact he was a knife thrower, it was funny how she could notice all these things by just looking at his body.

Theus' ears flicked back in surprise as he sat down, 'this is the doctor?' he thought as his nervousness lowered down to a simmer, 'such a sweet looking cat couldn't have ever done a amputation in her life! he throught as he sniffed, fidgeting as he rubbed his paws together out of nervous habit, before looking back up at the tiny healer.

Althaia smiled weakly as he didnt reply, but rather looked unimpressed at her. Althaia let out a sigh through her nose, and gently took her small dainty paw and pressed it to his cheek turning his face to the side, slowly taking off the bandage there. #rd degree burns and eye gone from its socket, not a fun situation. "When did you loose the eye?" She asked inspecting the wound. She looked to see if it was too wet, if it was too wet and not healing correctly, it could start to rot on him and he would die of infection. She went to basket of herbs waiting for the tom to reply, grabbing out a bottle of green slush (a mix of herbs and herb juice to promote healing) and a roll of new fresh bandage. She took cloth and sprinkled the bottles fluid on its surface, its scent was minty but very mediciney.

Theus blinked his remaining eye, flinching in pain when the dainty, little healer wasn't looking. "A year ago, hit in the face with a torch..." He mumbled, his gravelly voice rumbling upward from his chest like an earthquake as he held on to his bandage in a strong paw while rubbing the other over the good half of his face is shame.
He hated it when he had to take the bandage off. It made kits cry, queens cringe in horror and toms look away in pity. He hated pity almost as much as how upset people got over his eye. Yet the dainty healer didn't seem care too much. She barely flinched, which made him smile in respect.

Althaia turned, "Thats a long time, Its healing pretty well, your lucky you havent gotten any infection, I might not have been able to help you if you did." She pointed out. "This may sting, but the nerves on the wound should be long dead now, Im sure you wont feel much." She pointed out pressing the herb cloth to his burn. She had seen similar cases. Not exactly like this, but familiar, and she dealt with them the same. Show no sign of emotion to the wound, that upsets the costumer. Althaia cleaned up the wound, and wrapped it back up. "There! Good as new." She purred. "Any other recent injures? Pain or discomfort anywhere? Head aches?" she asked as she went to his knee, tapping her paw against the bottom of the knee cap getting the same reaction as the other cats before him. She looked up at hi, waiting for a answer. Theus seemed nice, but she knew, there was something he was hiding beneath that hard shell he was wearing. He faked his smile, and sadly Althaia didnt have anything to help with sadness, nothing but distraction and advise on how to move on.

Theus blinked his missing eye underneath the bandage as he adjusted to the minty smell of whatever the little healer had put on the bandage. Wrinkling his nose in thought, he looked down at the ground and shrugged, "Nothing beyond the usual soldier-boy boy issues." He mumbled with a sincere smile, rubbing his paws together in thought as he tried not to think about the riots.

Althaia was about to dsimiss him when she say something on his paws. She walked over and grabbed his paws, gently of course, looking up at his beautiful blue eyes and than back to his paws. Bruises and cuts lined the palms, most likely from knife throwing. She gave him a look of displeasure and walked back to her basket and grabbed out some more bandage, "So-" She began, her voice soft like a doves, her long tail flicking as she worked on mixing a few things together to make a better solution. "How long you been working for the Palace, if you dont mind me asking." She asked, her voice soft and her eyes not meets Theus's face.

"Um...A year and a half now." he mumbled quietly as his tail lashed across the floor restlessly in thought. "War-Dogs Two of First Brigade, one Purple Talon, two Bronze Fangs..." He mumbled, mindlessly listing his company and medals he had earned. The Purple Talon for his face and the Bronze Fangs for Bravery and Survival.
He rubbed the callouses on his scraped paws with intent focus. Trying to think of anything else he could talk about to keep his mind from focusing on the past. His reminder was the silver heart locket, tied so tightly to his wrist it scarred and he still couldn't will himself to be rid of it.

Althaia looked up at his a little surprised, "thats a fair amount medals, a lot more than I have." She joked, a light giggle in her throat as she fiddled some more. She peered up at him, noticing the locket on his wrist. For a moment she thought about flirting with the handsome tom. Unlike most cats she saw past ones appearance, it was who they truely are that mattered. But by the locket she knew his heart longed for another and she would keep to herself, but she was curious to ask, "Whos the locket from? My mother used to have one sorta like it, at least the color and metal." She told him. She looked up waiting for a response.

Theus smiled at her laugh, she had a nice laugh. But winced when she mentioned the locket that was a constant reminder to him, a reminder that he couldn't bring himself to throw away. "Their not on the ground we walk anymore..." He mumbled as he trailed off, fiddling with the small, silver, heart tied to his wrist.

Althaia frowned, "I-Im so sorry... I- I didnt realize..." She said instantly feeling sympathy for the tom. She kind aput things together here, the burn, the missing eye, and the locket. Although she didnt know the full story, she understood that he was recovering from a painful experiences in his life. "Im really sorry... I should have minded my own business." She told him finishing the patching up his paws and than waving her paw, "You-r.... your okay now." she said, her voice soft nervous and felt bad for her mindless question.

"That's okay, it's how I got the nickname." He mumbled and attempted at a smile, even if it was just to make the dainty healer less guilty. The tightness of the bandage gave him nothing more that a lopsided smile that cut off on one side of his face, making him look rather comical.
"If you mention Orpheus around the Second-Class Legionaries and ask them to jump, they'll ask how high..." He grinned, one of the benefits of his name was the fame and infamy it gained him with the other soldiers. The first-class respected him and the second-class feared him to the point of horror at just hearing the story of the tom who fought through a whole mob to reach his soon to be bride.
