The sun had fallen, it’s bloody sunset streak long gone and replaced with a more peaceful shade of indigo-black. Some moonlight brightened things; made them more blue, made them shiny, made them visible to the keen cat’s eye even without light.. but not overly bright. Still night. The houses were blackened, the colour was drained.. Within the house it was almost entirely dark, candles the only light as it was the moon’s hour, and the sun’s rays were gone. Even some of those had blown out or been put out, descending the house into an almost complete blackness.. A good time for sleep. There was nothing threatening about the air, no bad feelings in the house. It was safe there, comfortable. Average like every other day..
Of course, Crow was not in it.
He had gone to sleep, like every night; likely curled against his love, tired from the day’s work, or, more likely, any visitors or persons he had bumped into. There he had stayed until all light was fully gone..But even as his mind wandered in and out of it’s pre-sleep haze, it would not rest. There was an ongoing restlessness, as if despite his vigilant cleaning and examinations and re-examinations, he had missed a spot of filth. There was nothing dirty in this house. Even the pipes and the framework were spotless. No. The dirt..It came from elsewhere. Always coming, always going.. Defiling the sanctity he had created. He was outside. Not for a walk, not even for some air. He had wandered from the house, finding a grassy knoll on which to stand on. It was a peculiar place, for it was on a higher ledge of ground than the rest, almost towering over the nearby houses though it really had no business doing so. This height made it the perfect point of observation. The forest behind and a tree closer to the cliff offered cover. Yes, this was a good place to stand, to watch, to wait until some of the filth to come around..and snipe it out before it arrived.
Dirt was not permitted. No matter what form it took.

Night. It was a time when many slept, from humans to birds, and an uncountable number inbetween. Of course, some woke in the night, rather than the day, such as the owls and rodents. Right now, the area seemed to be asleep. It was hushed; voices quieted to sleepy whispers, and light vanquished in favor of darkness. B2 was no different than the other houses. Darkened with candles flickering to break the night, silent, sleepy. It seemed, like in most the nearby homes, the owners were in dreamland. It was peaceful, wasn't it..? Or perhaps not. For whatever reason, the light golden she-cat stirred tonight, shifting and waking sleepily with a yawn. Why..? A bad dream, just a bit of restlessness..? The cat gave no clear sign as to what, just woke, and prepared to go back to sleep. Shift, shift. She moved a bit, bright blue eyes remaining shut; curling, uncurling, and sliding over a bit from her spot. Then, she stilled. Not to fall back asleep, it seemed, but to open her eyes, blinking the sleep away, and peering around. "Crow...?" It had took a moment, but realization had set in. The dark tom wasn't present.
Ah, but he'd probably just gotten up for one simple reason or another; a snack, the bathroom, and so on. No need to be concerned. She shifted a bit, curled to herself, and settled down again. Still, quiet. Listening. She heard nothing. No sounds of movement in the house. Another slight shift, and she was up, slipping onto her paws and stretching swiftly. Now what..? Find Crow. What if something had happened to him..? Unlikely, but possible. She moved off, sparing a glance to her collar and feathers. No need to wear those. So, onward; to the exit, pausing a moment to grab the cloak hanging nearby, pulling it over herself swiftly, choosing the darker side over the lighter blue, hood drawn up over her ears. No traces of him in the house. So then, out. Through the home, and out the door, pausing to skim the darkness, eyes readjusting.
Which way to go..? She took a breath, pausing a moment. Where was his scent..? He'd went out, it seemed, so.. it had to be somewhere. Another breath, and she was off, dropping onto four paws and moving along, tail flicking. Onward, then, to find Crow. Out of the house, and away. Heading where..? Wherever the scent led.

It was a cool night. Not cold but not warm. The wind that rustled through his fur wasn’t quite disturbing, but not especially comforting, either..Which was fine, as he was not in the mood to take in nature as he would have done in a relaxation session or other time. No, he was at work. Just as determinedly as he would ignore the prospect of ‘fun’ while being halfway through cleaning something, he ignored the peace of the night. He was deaf to the rustle in the trees, the crickets’ song, and the soft grass under his paws. No, he was not ignorant of the world. He was deaf to those things, but he was not deaf.. Oh contrary, his senses where as sharp as they ever would be, honed in keenly on the streets and world below him on the knoll.
He was not quite sure what he was watching for. Unlike a dirty dish or a mildew-filled sink, or a table-cloth stain or a broken door hinge, he had no experience with dealing with filth of this kind. Oh, he had –technically- dealt with a lot of it..But it hadn’t quite gone as far as it was going to now. He knew the filth. He knew how they soiled, ruined, and endangered. Before in his life, he had had no reason to care; he would ignore them and they would ignore him, or wind up broken and bloodied. Now he had more than just himself to worry about. Much more. While he trusted Krysanthe’s skill, in both defense, fighting, and good judgement, he would much rather her not have to test it. That was the main reason, but there were more. This was where they lived. Him, Krysanthe’s..Krysanthe, a lovely, high-class citizen. Filth, here? Unacceptable. It was a nice place to go and snoop about, defile.. It had to be protected.
As if from the wind, his ear twitched. At the moment, there had not been a breeze, however. As tuned in as he was, he realized this right away; tilting his head in the direction, slitted pupils growing rounder as they adjusted to the shadows in that direction. Nothing in sight, but he had heard something. As he had just come that way, he felt not the urge to stake it out..Unless he had been followed, without him knowing previously, it was not what he was looking for. Nonetheless, he would go check anyway. Up, up he went; rising from his sit to his four paws, sliding over the ground with ease. With no chain nor necklace over him to rustle or shine, he was as silent as the night itself..
He was soon surprised to find Krysanthe. While he didn’t bounce off toward her, he didn’t try to hide or anything, either. That would be innapropriate. So, slowly, he started forward; abandoning any shadows the best he could, and letting his night-dark pelt be as visible as it could against the night-dark..Night. “Krysanthe..” Hadn’t she been asleep..? Why had she awoken? He was concerned before he even stopped to think what –he- would say about being awake at night. Would she approve of what he was doing? No, she would not. But it had to be done. Had to be done to keep the peace. What to say? Lie? No. He would not lie to her. Not ever. But..That didn’t mean he had to go and expose himself, either.

Into the night. Into the darkness. She didn't blend quite as well as her mate; a shiny, light golden without a single dark mark to be found. Alas, the cloak concealed her well; hiding the majority of the goldish fur. She moved along quickly, unfaltering in her pattern. Scent check, direction change as needed.. and forward otherwise. Was there reason for her concern..? Probably not. Crow could handle himself quite well, she was sure, and she had no reason not to trust him. So why check..? For the sake of knowing for sure he was alright. What if something did happen to him, and she had been too lazy to check..? Luckily, laziness was far from a trait of her's. She was an active, ambitious cat. Always driven to do something. Such a drive was good in her work, really. She didn't give up a task easily, and her tracking skills and stealth were strong. But there was little need for stealth when seeking Crow.
She kept going, and then, she found him. She realized before he was visible on whatever level, and perked, head tilting up to peer out from under the cloak's large hood. Out of the shadows the dark tom appeared, greeting her. "Crow?" What was he doing out here at this hour..? She could've launched a series of questions quite easily. Why he was out here, where he was going or coming from, what he was doing, etcetera. She moved forward a bit, stretching out to touch her nose to his. "You're out late.." Questioning..? For now, no; just a mild observation. Did he make a habit of leaving at odd hours..? Hopefully not. That wasn't safe. What if someone hurt him..? Ah, not a good thought. Was she always so paranoid? No, not paranoid - cautious. Her father had raised her to be. To be ready in case of danger, to remain aware of the surroundings. Everything that seems like a possibility, even if rather far out, should be considered one. Expecting the unexpected was vital, he had taught.
"You really should let me know if you're going out for a bit, I was worried." Would he explain without questioning..? Hopefully. He wouldn't have reasons to keep secrets from her, would he..? The thought made her uneasy, long, feathery tail giving a flick. Ah, best not to be paranoid over it. He was safe, that was the priority.

You’re out late.
The words had his mind finally kicking into gear, fighting with itself much more than it was fighting to find a way to explain his actions. He would never lie to her, after all..And it definitely wasn’t in his nature to deceive the one person who he really cared for, and loved. No, his tricks were for others, and others only. To the golden she-cat, he was loyal eternally. He would not deceive, and he would not go against her or her words..But.. This was for her own good, he figured, and if she did not know what words to say to fraught his plan, and if he –technically- did not know for sure it would upset her, then he was not going against her.
In the pit of his stomach he knew his excuse wasn’t entirely true, and a twinge of guilt stormed in him, almost like nausea. His expressions where always softer to Krysanthe. She had a quality that somehow managed to break through to his honesty, even through layers of the usually impenetrable deceit and perfect plans. While he tried to remain looking calm, untroubled, there was little doubt in his mind that his face had betrayed at least a small amount of his unease. She would not approve of what he was doing. She would be afraid he would get himself hurt, or in trouble. In his own head, the likelihood was near zero. A possibility, but not likely.. Nonetheless, he knew her well enough to know that she would not approve of there being even the slightest chance.
He smiled at her, the best smile he could manage through the expression betrayal..Which he had gotten under wraps quickly, but still lingered before fading off. He returned the nose press with one of his own, then slid in a bit closer to press his dark furry side against her light one. “You were asleep, I didn’t want to wake you..” It was because of him that she was awake, though, wasn’t it? He had still managed to disturb her sleep. How unacceptable.

Watching, now. Soft, warm watching. Nothing hawkish or accusitory. Just.. watching. It was an almost sleepy stare, really; but any who knew Krysa would know it was deeper than it look. No matter how soft the expression, she was watching every bit of body language she could see of the darker cat. Taking it in, forming meanings, calculating. Not unfairly, of course, but calculating nontheless. She was silent, now, ears perking for responses or comments. One came - he didn't want to wake her? Ah, but she was awake, now. And she had awoken with worry. It'd be less troubling to stir her a moment, tell her he was going somewhere, then let her go back to sleep, rather than let her wake and find him gone and go searching for him worriedly. "I'd rather you wake me than wake and not know where you are.."
The uneasiness, she didn't miss it, shifting a bit to press to him when he came closer, a light purr forming. "It's a nice night out, isn't it..? We could take a walk." Rushing into questions and accusations would do no good. She needed time to think, and figure out the best way to find out.. why exactly Crow had been wandering at odd hours. She tilted her head a bit to bump it against him. Perhaps he had just not slept well, and decided to go out a while..? Ah, she'd figure out in due time. For now, she'd give his ear an affectionate lick and wait for a response. Would he agree to a walk? Ah, hopefully. She needed time to sort out the thoughts.
Well, this night seemed interesting. Especially since she'd, most nights, have been asleep at this hour. Nontheless, she had woke tonight for whatever reason.

Events had turned the night from his goal, and he felt almost dishevelled at not being able to patrol about as he had intended. He would do his best to forget about it, though..For his own good, less he appear bothered and this alert Krysanthe even more to questions. The thought of having to explain fully what exactly he was doing as..unpleasant. After all, just thinking about it, even with the excuses his mind made, made him prickle with guilt. No doubt he’d make a real fool of himself if he was forced to speak it all bluntly. That..Wasn’t something anyone wanted to see. Crow, unsure, guilt-ridden, emotional, uncomposed..? He would probably explode into a puff of smoke.
Not that Krysanthe had never seen him uncomposed before, heheheh.. But that amount of that, or an excessive amount of it, may be the death of him. Unpleasant. “I am sorry for..causing you to wake.” Flick went his tail, the fluffy fur of it aimed to brush over Krysa apologetically. He took his gaze off her, and glanced around; the night had not changed. He was not entirely sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing. If had had not changed, it meant that maybe there had been nothing to watch for..Or maybe it meant that there was, and that it just hadn’t showed up yet. The fur on the back of his neck prickled a bit at the thought, but he forced it back down. Composed. “A walk? I suppose..” Regularly, he would’ve been compelled to comment on the fact that walking in the dark wasn’t the best or most appropriate idea..But now was hardly the time. After all, if he were to point it out..Wouldn’t see wonder why he, then, had been walking out in the dark.. And alone, too? Ah, such shamefull times. How much more shameful would it become as the walk progressed..? He was about to find out..

Uneasy. She knew quite well Crow was uneasy. She didn't need to see his fur prickling along his neck to catch it - she sensed it. He was a shadow in the night, body language would do her little good.. but she felt the oddness about him without needing to see it. She shifted herself a bit, pressing to his side affectionately, and moving a front paw to try to slip it alongside his in a sort of.. 'hand-holding' gesture. Apologetic tail-brush. Sorry he woke her? "That's alright, Crow.." Pause, debate. "I'm more worried about what you're doing out as this hour.." It wasn't a question or accusation. Well, yet, atleast. No, she wouldn't make accusations, regardless. But ask questions as gently as she could to try to understand his behavior. "Did you have a nightmare..?" No, no he hadn't. That she was almost sure of. She'd have been woken by his upset, more than likely. Nonetheless, she'd leave the possibility open, just incase she was wrong. Glance. The cyan gaze went onto the darker tom, soft, but watchful. Seeking a reaction or response to her question. Would he lie to her? Quite possibly. But.. she would most likely know if he did. Would she press the matter if he did lie..? Probably not. What would she say..? 'Of course you didn't have a nightmare, stop lying'? Yeah, no. Because she couldn't know for sure if it was truth or lie, just guess.
Agreement to walk? She'd move off, then, tail swishing to brush his lightly. "Perhaps down to the stream?" If he didn't protest it, she'd give him a soft nudge and move off in that direction at a leisurely pace. "I suppose.. you do not want to tell me what you were doing out? I won't make you.. but I do wish you'd atleast wake me to tell me you're going out for awhile.. so if I wake I do not worry where you've went and if you're okay.." She shifted at this to cuddle against the tom a moment. Concerned..? Of course. She wouldn't question him at all if not for the worry he might get hurt, really. He was not some kit that needed her kitsitting him at all hours. He was a grown tom, perfectly capable of tending himself, who she trusted whole-heartedly. But.. even the strongest could run into trouble wandering alone in the middle of the night. It just.. wasn't wise. Atleast if she knew he was planning to go out, however, she wouldn't worry.. quite as much, unless of course he did not return. "I trust you, Crow.. I just don't want something to happen to you.." Ah, she had intended to be more subtle..

Not five seconds after his response was he left to brood further, as the subject he so desperately wanted to avoid came up. She was worried why he was out here alone..? His mind swam, quickly going over what he may say. Was there a way to get around that without lying? Not without a child-like shortness, and he was far beyond that sort of thing. Simply saying ‘out for a walk’ would not be enough, he knew. If he had been out for a walk, he most likely would’ve kept to the streets and the lights and other things of that type. Instead, he had been caught lurking in the shadows, no doubt looking like the potential criminals he wished to.. purge from their presence. This didn’t feal right, this pussy-footing. While he happily danced himself around other’s with lies so believeable they were almost truths, he was surprised by how wrong he felt even contemplating doing so to Krysanthe. As it should, really. She was his mate, his love, his saviour- if he lied to her at all, what would he be..? Lower than the lowest of lows, even in his eyes. For a slave, he really did have standards.
He shifted uneasily, being tugged along without disagreement into the walk, nodding slightly when Krysanthe suggested going to the stream. She, of course, continued, and the subject didn’t slip away as he had momentarily hoped it would. Battle with himself over, he sighed deeply, and glance away..Of course, he didn’t –move- away. Time of un-Crow-ishness? Stick to Krysanthe like glue. No matter how illogical it was. “I am concerned about the riff-raff that lurk around.. “ He flushed with shame. “I was going to try and scare them off..” Wasn’t he..? Well, he probably would’ve..permenantily..scared them off, but if they had been legitimately scared enough to flee and never return, he wouldn’t chase them. It wasn’t a lie. With the confession, his guilt vanished. The shame stayed on his face, but it was visibly much less potent. Really, for such a..fake..person, Crow really did have moments of truth that were unbelievably potent. Currently, he looked as skilled at covering up as an infant kit who had eaten the jar of cookies when their mother had told them not to.

Onward, now. She was silent. Listening, and no commenting. She would wait for him to speak again before she spoke. When a response did come, she was still silent, pondering it. Concerned of the riff-raff? Planning to scare it off..? She skimmed the surrounding non-chalantly. What 'riff-raff' did he mean, exactly? The Western streets were not bad - that's not to say they were perfect. Trouble was still possible. Danger still lurked. But it was not a large problem. The occassional burglurization or scuffle.. not that severe. Certaintly not reason enough to go lurk the night looking for trouble. She did not fear trouble-makers. A coward would not make a good Legionary Assassin. She was more than prepared to face whatever dangers came her way, confident and unafraid. There was no need for Crow to run off looking for trouble to.. end trouble. If it came, they would deal with it then. She shifted, leaning onto him a bit. "That's very noble of you, Crow, but I don't think it's necessary, is it? If danger comes, we're both quite capable of fending it off, and if it does not come, then there is no reason to fret. I don't want you hurt by something preventable."
Focus shifting off him, Krysa set it straight ahead a moment, pondering. "What are you afraid of, Crow? Danger exists, yes, but it will do you no good lurking the streets each night, hunting it out. If you were to get into a scuffle and someone found out you would be punished. Leave that work to the Shades and Legionaries. That is their job - the Shades patrol through the night quite adequately." Perhaps.. Crow would make a good Shade or Legionary of some sort? As of now.. he was considered a slave - but if he was ever raised above that status somehow, such occupations might work well for him. Shade lurked through the night, seeking criminals and dealing with them. Crow was already doing their job - but they would not get in trouble for it. He would. She tilted up, trying to nose his cheek affectionately. "I would be very sad if something bad happened to you, you know that, don't you?" The dark-colored tom meant the world to her - she had never 'bought' him with the intentions of having a slave. She was not that sort - she had intended to give him a chance at freedom and life that he wouldn't have had locked in a cage, unwell and damaged. It had grown into much more than that, however. A companion, friend, and ultimately her love.
