The sun was high on Jasper Beach, its soft heat making the sand burn a little at every touch. The small tom sat in the slight shade that covered the rim of the beach on the back side, to keep the eroded rock from hurting it paw pads. Volf was at the beach today to practice his scenery for a new story he was going to write sooner or later, the works he had done had gotten a little to boring, and he need to expand his mind more. Since he loved the beach, he decided to get out of his stuffy home and get some fresh air. The Javanese sniffed the sweet scents of the ocean air, his green eyes watching intently as the waves crashed onto land. He flipped open his bag, grabbing his many empty parchments and a pencil. He stared at the dark white paper, the breeze flipping a corner up and down. He laid back, sighing, closing his eyes. Watching many images of creation flow through his thoughts. But none where the things he wanted to write about.

Perhaps it wouuld of been better for Calamity to go through the forest instead of coming strait to the beach. The wind from the storm a few days ago hadn't left the shore's of King Jasper's mighty beach, and her cookies would surely not be as warm and tasty as usual. She'd had a time trying to keep the royal help's kittens away from her goodies, but alas, a few of the sweets had fallen to the paws (and mouths) of a few of the brats. 'Oh well. They won't get any cookies from my this night. Definately not.' she thought with a humph, hopping into the grainy sands of the shore. Waves crashed in against the beach, leaving sea weed and shells in their wake. Sea gulls cawed above, harrassing the few fishing cats out at sea. The dark smiled, moving into an upright position. She walked on in spite of her horrible balance, and took great pleasure in inspecting the debris the ocean left for her. 'Such wonderful things come from this sea. It's so sad not a lot of jewelery is made from these shells.' the she cat though, bringing her paw up to stroke her own jewel. Her cookies hung in her sachel, creating countless crumbs that would stick there for years. Unless one of the palace kittens got into them. Which the most likely would. Calamity sighed again, taking a seat at the water's edge, letting the water flow to her feet. She shivered, giggling.

Volfs eyes shifted from the spot he was previously looking at, a dark she-cat came into view out of the corner of his eye. She had a small tail, and almost smallish ears, but she had good sized eyes. They where as blue as the ocean its self. He blinked, did she even notice he was hear? Or was she admiring the ocean as we was doing? He shrugged his shoulders, he didn't mind really he didn't want to attract to attention of her. He got up form his sitting place, stuffing his notes back into his bag. But as he threw his bag around his should, the strap caught his foot and caused him to flip over onto his stomach with a big thud. The sand smoothing his fall a little, but not much. He scrambled back onto his butt, he winched when he found that there was seashell piercing his skin. Volf huffed, "Oh great, just bring attention on myself," he thought darkly, he plan of slipping away unheard was ruined my a bag strap.

The korat mix flinched as she heard someone fall in the sand behind her, then a splutter of words she couldn't decifer. She jumped to her feet at once, looking around at her sides at first. Nothing on the left. Nothing on the right. Oh yeah, the sound had come from behind her. How stupid was she? Turning around, the blue gray she cat blinked, seeing none other than the head sage, Volf. She'd seen him a few times, at the palace. Never long enough to greet him or anything. What was he doing at the beach? She could only wonder of his intentions. "Um....are you doing okay? Do you need some help?" she asked politely, blinking in utter confusion. The tom semed to be tasked with spittting out sand at the moment, too busy with that to even notice her question. She walked closer, but stopped just a few feet ahead of him. 'He might be angry with me for scaring him. I better stay away if he strikes me.' Of course she'd never been struck herself, no. But she'd seen such things in the taverns near the Witch's Hollow. She cats beaten for not entertainer their suitors correctly. Nothing of that sort happened in north quarter, where she spent most of her time. Then again, guards weren't around to see that all the citizens in southern quarter were treated fairly and with dignity. She thanked her mother deeply for letting her become a queen's maiden.

Volf stuck out his tongue, rough sand covered the surface. He spit the fine grain out of his mouth, the tom was to busy trying to clean himself off to see that the she-cat was walking to him. He got up off his stomach, brushing the sand off his arms and belly, he didn't fully acknowledge the questions that she asked him but he still heard it in his ear as a fuzzy mumble. He picked up his head, "Oh, oh! Yes I'm fine!" he kept his gaze down in embarrassment, he looked down to see that his few scrolls he had in his bag were sprawled around him, "I could use some help. . . With my, um, with my scrolls," he meowed evenly, standing up to brush the rest of his body. His skin was still itching even in the places he had already cleared off, "I wish I could just go into the ocean right now, I think this stupid sand covered every part of my body!" he thought in an irritated tone.
