The early morning sun was already making its way up the clear blue skies that covered the Old Church. Devyn was making his way there today, not to the Church per say but to the Orphanage that it housed. He went there often, visiting the small orphans and sometimes bringing in what he could offer to help raise them. But he also had a hidden reason to be there. He hoped that one day he’d find his brother among the small orphans. His brother had supposedly died in the fire that had taken the lives of his mother and father but Devyn still held onto the hope that maybe they had somehow survived or that at least his younger brother had. Today he didn’t have anything to offer, he hadn’t been stealing too often because he was busy with his newly appointed Guild responsibilities. He’d found some time today for a visit and he was glad of that. He hadn’t checked the orphanage in a while and maybe his brother had appeared there in that time? His blue eyes twinkled happily at the thought and he could feel himself walk faster towards the Old Church building.
He hadn’t brought anything at all on his visit, not even his cloak and especially not his dagger. He knew that the Orphanage staff suspected he was a pickpocket or something of the sort with the way he always found money laying around but they never said anything. If he brought a knife, that would be a different story. And once he was outside the door he opened it quickly, gazing through the room. There weren’t many cats awake and the ones that were looked tired. He smiled quietly to himself, he and his brother used to complain about getting up in the mornings like that too once. With the same sleep look in their eyes as they headed out to assist their parentis in the fields.

Today was a new day and Hope was already up and moving. Maybe a normal kind of kid his age would be trying to get as sleep as one can; but Hope likes to take advantage of such a beauty shown in the morning. But when he woke up he didn't really want to travel too far away so early in the morning. As he quietly leap out of his bed, he tried tip-toeing his way out of the room. But there is always that annoying moment when one tries to be quiet, but instead with each step it rings throughout the whole place. Ofcourse he knew that it wasn't TOO early, some had to be awake but he'd rather just move throughout the place without being seen. Cause then he'd have the awkward moment of having probably someone ask where he was going. Creeeek, creeek, CREEEEEK went each step and Hope had laid his ears back in annoyance with a annoyed grunt.
Great, out of his room now he just had to make it outside without being seen. Hope felt the corners of his mouth tilt up in a slit grin since he was getting through this and being able to be a silent as a mouse. But then suddenly, the young one had twitched his ears quick to hearing a door open. "Huh?" he wondered. Must've been one of the Staff leaving so he merely gave a shrug but as he rounded a corner, his eyes widened to see the strange cat Devyn and quickly moved back to hide behind the wall with an annoyed look. "Great." he whispered to himself. "How am I going to get past him?" he finished, looking slightly back over to see Devyn, his ears twitched back and keeping himself hidden from around the corner.

Devyn wasn’t aware of the small tomcat that was hiding ‘round the corner so he just stayed where he was by the door. Eventually he grew bored of that and wandered around the orphanage a little. This was the place he would’ve ended up in after all. Except he hadn’t come here then, he’d gone to the tavern and asked for a job as a tavern hand. Of course he’d been older than most of the cats here at the time too so that was a part of it too. As he walked through the Orphanage he rounded the corner where Hope was and was a little surprised to see him there. The cat was smaller than him, of course since Devyn was older and taller for his age. Devyn wondered why the small cat was hiding out here instead of wandering around like the other orphans that were out right now. ”Oh, hey there. Shouldn’t you be asleep? Or at least not hiding? he asked the small cat.

Hope watched as the other cat started to move throughout the orphanage and he shrunk back behind the wall. "Alright, this is my chance. Here is my-GWAHEE." his voice changed to a surprised tone when all of a sudden he had heard Devyn's voice and looked to see him standing right there. He even jumped back a little bit,oh how could he be so careless not to notice him coming. The question came up and Hope's ears twitched back. "Uh...uh well..I um.." he stuttered out as he started to shuffle his front paws together, trying to sum up some words he could say to him. Ofcourse Hope wasn't going to do anything wrong, but he felt as if the situation was much more intense.

Devyn let out a snort of laughter at the little tom's reaction to his appearance. Was he up to something? Seemed like it. Well, Devyn wasn't going to put a stop on anything this cat was planning. He used to be a trouble maker when he was younger too. "So what are you up to huh?Pranking someone?" he asked. He didn't look like he was going to do anything horrible so Devyn didn't think that he should snitch on him. Instead he was actually wondering what he was going to do and if he could even help.

Hope looked up at Devyn when he gave out his snort, kinda looking confused at him. Did he do something funny? Then his ears pricked up at him when he suggested that he was going to prank someone. "N-No!" he stammered his voice going kind of high-pitched. "I-I..I was just gonna go outside. I wanted to sneak out quietly...but then you came in and I was gonna try and sneak past you." he looked back at his shuffling paws. "B-But. I failed." he said with a sigh as his ears twitched back. Hope isn't the best talker, especially when caught kind of off guard since it seems rather awkward to him. But with that now gone from his mind, he twitched an ear in a kind of realization and looked back up at the older tom in curiousity and slightly tilting his head. "Hey wait a minute...I haven't seen you before. Are you part of the staff?..." he dared to ask the stranger.

The little cat stuttered as he talked, and that amused Devyn, he didn't know why it did though. He wasn't going to go prank someone, he said. He'd been trying to sneak out though and Devyn couldn't help but smile at that. At his inquiry on who he was Devyn took a moment to think about how to respond to the question. Of course he'd say his name and that he wasn't a staff member but how would he explain his presence at the Orphanage. "Well, no I'm not. Name's Devyn. I come around here often.." he trailed off there and with a quick glance around the room decided that it wouldn't be too much trouble to take the kid outside for a walk. "You said you wanted to go outside right? How's about I take you for a walk then?" he asked.

Hope twitched an ear again at Devyn and brought his head up straight, still looking curious at this stranger and cautious. "You do? I don't seem to see you very often there.." he said as he blinked at the question. "Well...uh...yea I was going to go..." he said a bit awkwardly. He was never asked to take a walk before with someone, but it was just kinda setting off a flag since this tom was a complete stranger to him. "I don't know..." he said, taking a paw and rubbing the back of his head, looking as if he was thinking it over. "I don't think I'm allowed to go out with anyone I don't know...but then again, I get away with leaving here every chance I got. So..." he said dropping his paw back. "Maybe it'll be okay." he said with a shrug and tilting his head slightly with his arms crossed, eyeing up at him.

Strange that he hadn't seen him around, was he not coming to the Orphanage as often as he used to? Or was it that Hope wasn't around when he stopped by? The small cat did seem like the kind to leave the Orphanage for walks everyday and Devyn did usually stop by later in the day so it was likely that they just missed each other. Just then one of the staff passed by, waving a friendly hello at Devyn prompting him to wave a paw back. "Don't worry it's fine, the care takers know me." he mewed to assure the small tom. He started making his way to the door while thinking of where Hope would possibly want to go. "Anywhere in particular you wanna go?" he asked Hope in a casual way, remembering he hadn't told him his name yet. "So what's your name kid?"

Hope began to loosen up little bit when he noticed the care-taker and looked like they knew him and felt at ease after being told so. He breathed a small sigh and twitched his ears up with a small smile. "Well, I guess if you're known around here, I guess it's alright." he said as he followed behind towards the door when he was asked of where to go and turned to him with thinking kind of look and merely gave a shrug as he put both arms behind his head. "I've been to a lot of places around here tons of times, nothing seems too fancy. Do you have an idea...Devyn was it?" he asked as he blinked brought a paw down and gestured to himself. "Hope." he said with a nod gesture and a small-ish smile.

Don't worry I may be a few things but I'm not one of those creeps that are into little kids. he mewed solemnly, as if in an unspoken promise. And now that the little cat whose name was Hope said he didn't know where to go Devyn began racking his brain trying to find a good enough place to go. He came up empty though and soon just gave up. "How's about we just walk around here then and see where we end up then?" he asked. Devyn couldn't remember the last time he'd walked down the street with another cat and he had to admit it wasn't a bad feeling. He didn't really know anything about Hope but that didn't matter much, just having company was such a nice thing that Devyn didn't normally have. "Soo... what's up kiddo. Anything exciting going on? Not that there would be much going on in a place like that I'd imagine.." Devyn tried to start up a conversation but felt a bit awkward in doing so. He hadn't spoken casually with anyone in a while either and it was beginning to show.

"Alright, sounds good." he agreed with a nod as they made their way out the door. As they walked, Hope quickly adjusted his scarf-wrap a bit and crossed his arms behind his head as they traveled on by. It was calm and quiet, and Hope let his senses extend all around them to hear the nature's sounds. It made him smirk a little, which was barely seen due to the scarf. He snapped right back to earth when Devyn asked the question. He gave a thoughtful look and shrug, "Nothing I can think that goes on here. I'm not one to really hang around here too much...it's kinda boring." he said, "I like to go out and do somethings." Once finished making his statement, he turned and tilted his head up to look up at Devyn, arms still crossed behind his head. "How about you, I don't seem to see you too much around here, but I guess it's because I'm never here." he said with a slight chuckle.

"Yeah I can guess..." He mewed with a sad-like tone. The orphanage always had this sad air to it, even on the days when the orphans were getting adopted. Devyn wanted to change that somehow, though he didn't really know how except how he was already which was by donating as much as he could. "Hmm? Oh well I usually come around the afternoon's when I'm not as busy. I get up early for work so I usually have time in the afternoon for myself." of course by work he meant thieving and pick pocketing. Not that he panned on telling Hope that though. "So anyone new show up in the orphanage lately?" Devyn asked in the most casual way he could. Of course he was wondering if Hope had perhaps seen his brother. Maybe he had, hopefully he had.

"Sounds like you're one busy guy." he said with a slight chuckle as he turned his head to look on forward again. "Anyone new?" he said in thought. Hmm, was there anyone new? If there was, he probably wouldn't have seen them yet since he wasn't one to socialize with others and he wasn't around alot. "No one comes to mind, no. Sorry." he said with shrug and a sigh as he turned his head slightly back at Devyn. "Why? You interested in adopting? Cause boy there sure are some keepers in there from what I heard." he said with a warm look, though his words hung with a little hollowness since when the topic was brought up he usually wasn't very comfortable talking about it. While lost in his thoughts about it, he was kinda giving a sadish look as they traveled forward but gave his head a good shake to snap him back to his senses.

Devyn couldn't help but smirk at Hope's comment. He surely sounded busy now didn't he? What with balancing Guild work with his personal work there was barely any time left for himself anymore. He listened intently to Hope when he began to speak again, hoping to hear news of his brother. But alas he didn't, instead he was met with the sad truth that his brother was probably dead once again. His eyes gazed at the ground depressively for a moment. "What about you though? Are you one of those keepers?" he asked suddenly, almost unaware that he was even speaking at all.
